2026 NBA Finals Preview
The road to the NBA Finals has not been easy for either team. While the New York Knicks swept both the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and Philadelphia 76ers in the semifinals, they were tested in the first series against the Atlanta Hawks. Now well-rested, the Knicks enter the Finals led by superstar guard Jalen Brunson.
On the other side, the San Antonio Spurs just finished a grueling seven-game series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In a surprising run, the Spurs went on the road and defeated the defending champions to reach the biggest stage in basketball. Led by arguably the best player in the world, Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio now has a chance to begin a championship era and solidify his rising legacy at just 22 years old.
What will it take for each team to win?

For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama must continue his dominant two-way play throughout the series. However, the outcome may ultimately depend on how well Stephon Castle can defend Jalen Brunson. Castle will be tasked with guarding the Knicks’ best offensive weapon nightly, and his ability to stay disciplined and out of foul trouble will be crucial.
Another major factor is the health of star point guard De’Aaron Fox, who has been dealing with a sprained ankle suffered in Game 4 of the semifinals against Minnesota. His speed, playmaking, and leadership will be heavily relied upon if he is able to perform at full strength.
Rookie Dylan Harper also looms as a potential X-factor. His ability to create offense and score in key moments could swing games in San Antonio’s favor. Ultimately, the Spurs’ success will depend on their defensive discipline and their ability to make Jalen Brunson uncomfortable.
New York Knicks-

The Knicks have looked dominant over the past few weeks. Although they had a tougher-than-expected series against the Hawks, they’ve shown clear signs of improvement since then sweeping both the Cavaliers and 76ers. Head coach Mike Brown has this team playing at a high level on both ends of the floor, and momentum is clearly on their side.
A key storyline is rest versus rhythm. Will the Knicks benefit from their four-game sweep and extended rest, or will they come out rusty in Game 1?
Karl-Anthony Towns presents an interesting matchup with Wembanyama. While both stretch the floor and move well for their size, Towns will need to play more physically and establish himself in the paint.
Mitchell Robinson, who recently underwent surgery on a fractured pinky finger, is expected to contribute primarily as a rebounder and interior defender.
For New York to win, Jalen Brunson cannot afford off nights. He will need consistent support from OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart, who must provide efficient scoring and defensive intensity throughout the series.
Prediction
In my view, the Spurs are the team to beat. Their combination of size, versatility, and depth makes them a difficult matchup on both ends of the floor. Victor Wembanyama is currently playing at an MVP level and thrives in high-pressure moments like this.
The Knicks are a strong, well-coached team, but San Antonio’s youth, depth, and two-way versatility give them the edge.
Prediction: The Spurs will win the series in 6 games.
San Antonio’s ability to eliminate the defending champions is a major statement. While the Thunder have dominated most of the league, the Spurs matched up well and proved they belong on the biggest stage.
If this series goes seven games, it would not be surprising, but the Spurs appear to have the slight advantage.
Final Thoughts

Game 1 tips off Wednesday at 8:30 PM, setting the tone for what should be an exciting NBA Finals.
Will the Knicks capture their first championship since 1973? Or will the Spurs begin the foundation of a new dynasty and capture their fifth title since 2000?
All eyes are on the biggest stage in basketball.
